Penguins Redevelopment

Client: Shell

Region: UK

Office: Aberdeen

Crondall Energy supported Shell in assessing pipeline response and behaviour for re-use by performing a number of analysis (buckling, walking, span, fatigue) for new operating conditions, reverse flow, and re-purpose.

Under Penguins redevelopment project Crondall Energy performed a review of the pipelines existing conditions to identify ‘showstoppers’ which could preclude the use of the facilities based on current and new design conditions. The lateral buckling review collated information from the available OOS surveys to develop finite element models of key buckles sites along the route. In addition, historical operational data was reviewed to assess the current fatigue damage in the most critical buckles. Future loading in the buckles against design code limits was assessed determining the end-of-life fatigue based on the predicted shutdown cycles for the redevelopment project.
