Crondall Energy supported Maersk in finding a cost-effective approach to Subsea Production System life extension of the Gryphon field.

Crondall Energy carried an assessment of the subsea equipment for use beyond design life. The team was tasked to seek a cost-effective approach to infrastructure life extension. Initial study stage incorporated data collection on equipment condition, vast operating history and inspection records.


Post data collection, Failure Mode Effects and Criticality assessment was performed to identify all potential deterioration failure modes with probability of failure under current condition and rate of deterioration. The results were compared with wider industry failure experience. Moreover, supply chain input on known operational issues was also included. The sum of the potential (probability) for failure combined with the associated cost (repair, restoration or replacement) provided client with view on expected life in terms of a probable cost of maintaining availability over future years.
